Causes of Weight Gain

Lack of exercise, especially in indoor-only cats without enrichment, contributes significantly. Never put cats on crash diets—rapid weight loss can cause fatal liver disease. Aim for gradual loss of 1-2% of body weight per week through measured portions and increased activity. Use puzzle feeders to slow eating and provide mental stimulation. Schedule daily interactive play sessions that mimic hunting to burn calories and build muscle. Replace high-calorie treats with play or affection as rewards.
